Professor Jinyan Huang, Director of the ERCEA led a key seminar titled “Chinese college students’ feedback literacy in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing” at the Inaugural Foreign Language Education Elite Forum held at Beijing Foreign Studies University on September 23-24, 2023. Five separate presentations were delivered by professors and graduate students from his cross-university research team including Jiangsu University, Hunan University, Beijing Union University, South-Central Minzu University, and Shanghai Dianji University. The inaugural Foreign Language Education Elite Forum is part of a broader effort to integrate Chinese-specific knowledge systems and advance foreign language education in Chinese higher education. It also aims to pioneer a novel academic discipline called foreign language education across the country.
Presided over by Professor Huang, the seminar commenced with him emphasizing the pivotal role of feedback literacy in Chinese college students’ English learning process. He provided a broad overview of learners’ feedback literacy in learning English as a foreign language (EFL). Subsequent five presentations focused on Chinese college students’ EFL learning in general, and specifically in the process of EFL listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The seminar concluded with a vibrant Q&A session, where Professor Huang engaged the audience in profound discussions about the future of English education in China.
This collaboration has significantly elevated Jiangsu University’s reputation within China’s foreign language education sector, emphasizing its proactive engagement in pioneering research. The diverse backgrounds of the research team highlight an emphasis on interdisciplinary innovation, strengthening ties between Jiangsu University and other university, laying the groundwork for future joint research endeavors.
