Jiangsu University held the Inauguration Ceremony of “the Evidence-based Research Center for Education Assessment”

On the afternoon of January 5, Jiangsu University held the unveiling ceremony and an academic report of “Evidence-based Research Center for Education Assessment” in the conference room on the sixth floor of the library. Tian Lixin, Vice President of the University Party Committee; Wang Jiajia, Dean of the School of Teacher Education; Li Guohao, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Zhang Yun, Deputy Director of the Graduate School; Zhao Ming, Deputy Director of the Social Sciences Office, attended the meeting. Xu Wei, Director of the Planning Department, presided over the ceremony.

The Evidence-based Research Center for Education Assessment (ERCEA) of Jiangsu University was jointly established by the School of Teacher Education and the Institute of Higher Education of the Planning and Development Division and was approved by the Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Jiangsu University last year. The directorship of the ERCEA is held by Professor Huang Jinyan, who is affiliated with the School of Teacher Education. The center provides assessment services and evidence-based research based on the needs of education assessment in China. It will further promote the characteristic development of education discipline in Jiangsu University. It will help the education field to build a high-quality guarantee system, strive to become an important force to promote the reform of education evaluation and build an education assessment research base with high influence at home and abroad.

Wang Jiajia, Dean of the School of Teacher Education, said that the ERCEA would become an important base for discipline construction, scientific research, talent training, social services, and the development of the school’s characteristics. Tian Lixin, Vice president of Jiangsu University, said that establishing the ERCEA of Jiangsu University is very important and will help promote the high-quality and conformal development of universities. In the development process, the research center should focus on the overall situation and the scientific issues in the evaluation and enhance scientific internationalization and specialization. Second, it is necessary to practice internal skills to form a unique brand in the field of evaluation. Third, it is to be pragmatic and innovative, contributing assessment wisdom to evidence-based decision-making in schools.

After the award ceremony, Huang Jinyan, director of the ERCEA of Jiangsu University, gave an academic report entitled “Evidence-based Evaluation of Higher Education Teaching and Learning: The Perspective of Experts in the Evaluation of National Education Programs in the United States.” Professor Huang first introduced the structure, research planning, and research direction of the research Center. Then, the Director introduced the relevant contents of the evaluation of American college education programs and the teaching evaluation of college teachers and discussed the practical cases with the teachers and students present.

Representatives of teachers and students from the Planning Office, the Academic Affairs Office, the Graduate School, the Overseas Education School, the International Office, the School of Teacher Education, and the members of the ERCEA attended the unveiling ceremony and the academic lecture.
