The 6th Academic Symposium on English Teaching and Assessment was held in Beijing on April 7-8, 2023. The symposium aims to update the concept of educational assessment, promote the reform of assessment mode, build a new ecology of education integrating “teaching-learning-assessment,” and promote the high-quality development of education. Experts and scholars from major universities in China gathered together to conduct in-depth discussions on the field of English teaching and assessment, share the latest research results, theoretical discussions, and practical experience, and jointly promote the innovation and development of English teaching and assessment.
During the presentation session from 16:30 to 17:30 on April 7, an inter-collegiate research team led by Professor Jinyan Huang, Director of the Center for Evidence-based Research on Educational Assessment, School of Teacher Education, Jiangsu University, gave a fruitful presentation on the topic of “Feedback Literacy in College Students’ English Learning and Peer Evaluation in the College English Classroom - Letting the Data Speak for Itself.” Based on structural equation modeling, Prof. Huang presented an in-depth analysis of the feedback literacy of Chinese university students in the process of English learning. Dr. Junfei Li conducted a detailed study on the reliability, validity, and benefits of peer assessment in Chinese university EFL-speaking classrooms from an assessment perspective and discussed its educational implications for EFL teachers and students. From the perspective of a feedback provider, Professor Wenyan Wu evaluated peer feedback as a reliable and effective adjunct to supplement teacher feedback in EFL writing classrooms.
